Fair and Ethical Fashion Show!!!!!

All of us here at Conserve India are busy preparing for the 2 upcoming trade fairs. It’s time to give a sneak peak of Fair and Ethical Fashion Show. It is the very first fair, ethical and sustainable fashion exhibition in Milan. Here, world class Italian and international experiences are targeted specifically to fashion companies, buyers and media. The venue [Spazio ex-Ansaldo spaces] is a real icing on the cake. After all, the venue is in the heart of the fashion district and it is being commonly used for top class fashion events.

Another reason to rejoice is that all exhibitors are FTOs either producing or marketing garments or fashion accessories. Also, all these companies comply with the ethical criteria for producing garments and fashion accessories.

Conserve India is really honoured to be a part of this legacy!

Don’t forget to catch us from 21 to 24 May 2015 at Fair and Ethical Fashion Show

Food Ladder India is growing in leaps and bounds!!!!!!!!

We are super excited to share this news with you.

Food Ladder India

We are happy to report that all the hard work is paying off! Food Ladder India is going from strength to strength.

This year alone we have made huge progress. Last week we hired Abhilash Gupta, our ‘Food Ladder India Manager’ who is responsible for the operations of our initial roof-top greenhouse system in Delhi and now a secondary hydroponic farm that we have initiated in the same slum. When the time is right, Abhilash will be responsible for rolling out our solutions all throughout India and the world.

Working with our wonderful in-country Partners, Conserve India, we are planning the second Food Ladder social enterprise which will adjoin the small make-shift school in the Bahadurgarh slum of west-Delhi. We specifically chose this location to enable mothers to safely deliver their children to the school for learning and be employed at the same location, simultaneously. It is a brilliant marriage of solutions for nutrition, empowerment and education in women and children.

This year we have also made some important changes. As Food Ladder grows, we are moving all manufacturing and operations to our head-office in Delhi for a more convenient and cost-effective distribution to a broader range of locations throughout Asia.

Special Mention about Deakin University – Australia!!!!!!!!!

Well, its time to wrap up the Deakin Week celebration!!!!!!!!!!

Without further ado, we present you the special part of the interview of the Deakin students Ms. Melody Murton & Mr. Rob Gentle, the folks who visited us recently.

Conserve India –  We happened to read a lot about “Sustainability at Deakin”. Quite Impressive! So,tell us out of those 7 domains ( bio-diversity, education for sustainability, energy & green house gas emissions, sustainable built environment, sustainable transport, water & recycling, and water and stormwater), which one do your students prefer the most and any reasoning behind that ?

Ms. Murton & Mr. Gentle – We think that sustainably built environments is a key area of concern for Deakin students. Staples (stationery company that sponsored our trip) is helping Deakin to have a significantly better environmental response as a university. Also transport is a big issue in Melbourne and many students are finding ways to travel to campus using environmentally friendly means (public transport, cycling, car pooling).

Conserve India – Will Deakin students would like to visit us in future ? And if yes, do you think, will
they take home any learning and practice it there ?

Ms. Murton & Mr. Gentle – We are hoping that this trip will be an annual event so it is hoped that more Deakin  students will visit Conserve! We hope to bring back knowledge to better promote fair trade, but also an awareness of the processes used to potentially create similar enterprises in the future.

Special Note from Conserve India – These questions were raised to the Deakin University students during the interview. As soon as these questions were raised, both the students echoed the same views. This made us think that it is the success of Deakin University’s teachings. Hence we decided to give a special place for this part of the Interview. Hats off Deakin!!!!!!!

Interview with Mr. Rob Gentle, Deakin University – Australia!!!!!!!!!

We are celebrating Deakin Week!!!!!!!!!!

Without further ado, we present you the interview of  Deakin student Mr. Rob Gentle, the one who visited us recently.

Conserve India –  It’s such an honor that you have chosen “Conserve India” for your visit. Tell us, what made you to choose us or what do you like about us ?

Mr. Gentle – I like the alternative path to fair trade approach that focuses on creating products but also attempting to solve the rubbish issue as well. It is also one of the only organizations that we have met so far that intentionally tries to work with the slum dwellers

Conserve India – Now that you have visited us, does it feel any different from whatever your have heard about us or read in literature?

Mr. Gentle – Yes, I didn’t realize how mainstream the products seem and how applicable they are to the commercial market. I thought they would look more like traditional handicrafts that would be limited to a niche market.

Conserve India – What is that “one thing” that you will always remember about this visit?

Mr. Gentle – The innovative use of Leather, Denim Brand labels on stools, poofs etc. and the process and design of reusing plastic bags.

Conserve India – Some fun! Tell us in one word or one line, the very first thing that comes to your mind, when you read the following

India – Poverty

Fair Trade – Development

Poverty – Youth

Sustainability – Economics

Recycling –  Plastic Bags

Eco-Friendly Accessories- Conserve India

Interview with Ms. Melody Murton, Deakin University – Australia!!!!!!!!!

Well, we said it is going to be Deakin Week!!!!!!!!!!

Without further ado, we present you the interview of one of the Deakin student Ms. Melody Murton, the one who visited us recently.

Conserve India –  It’s such an honor that you have chosen “Conserve India” for your visit. Tell us, what made you to choose us or what do you like about us ?

Ms. Murton – I like the holistic nature of the program that goes beyond just making products. The school, Heath care, greenhouse, environmental focus are all very impressive.

Conserve India – Now that you have visited us, does it feel any different from whatever your have heard about us or read in literature?

Ms. Murton – I had seen the products at Oxfam shop in Australia, so I was excited to see behind the process. What surprised me was that Conserve didn’t just train people to work for them, they operated as a bridge factory to deploy trained workers into other factories etc.

Conserve India – What is that “one thing” that you will always remember about this visit?

Ms. Murton – I  enjoyed hearing about the plastic bag process. But also the walk through the slum and visit to the school was very confronting, and it really encouraged me that Conserve was actively doing something to respond to the situation of the people in the slums.

Conserve India – Some fun! Tell us in one word or one line, the very first thing that comes to your mind, when you read the following

India – Curry

Fair Trade – Bags

Poverty – India

Sustainability – Environment

Recycling –  Bottles

Eco-Friendly Accessories- Bags

Introducing Deakin University – Australia !!!!!!!

We said it’s going to be Deakin Week!

Time to fulfill that promise

Deakin University – Australia is the very first “Fair Trade” university. Their curriculum includes special programs and courses about fair trade. In addition to that, they also encourage their Students (like Melody Murton & Rob Gentle) to meet fair trade partners in developing countries. The university also works closely with Oxfam.

Well, Melody & Rob were impressed with Conserve India’s social projects, innovative materials and our commitment to fair trade.

The most encouraging part of their visit (at least for us) is that – “they said the visit was inspiring and they hope to make careers for themselves in this field”.

As said earlier, it’s going to be Deakin Week! So, we have lot more coming up. Hold on there!

Thank you Melody Murton & Rob Gentle, Deakin University – Australia !!!!!!!
