Each part is further divided into 2 to 3 chapters.

What I liked the most?

  1. I love the fact that a complete part is allotted for Environmental Forces, Social & Ethical Responsibilities. It is true that Green Marketing is highly discussed. But in reality, large space is rarely devoted for this subject.
  2. The next thing I liked the most is that under Green Marketing, they talk about Green Buildings etc. Basically they handle the green marketing subject with respect to the green buildings also. Often times people handle this only from a retail prospective in a Marketing Book.
  3. It is quite impressive because even though the book talks about “Marketing” as such. They have dealt the subject in all angles including responsible marketing, something that is once again rare.
  4. The inclusion of case studies of companies that adapted to “green consumerism” is brilliant
  5. Last but not the least, even though the book talks about every kind of marketing, green marketing and related topics is something that you can find in almost every chapter of this book.

Did you know?

During the year 2010, 5 billion pounds of Polyethylene terephthalate [ PET ] were used in plastic containers and of that only about 1 billion pounds were recycled.

What was the surprise?

Fairmont Resort Hotels serves to three shades of green consumers. One such initiative is offering earth friendly conference meals.

Using a wide range of historical and contemporary materials, Diana Crane demonstrates how the social significance of clothing has been transformed.

Crane compares nineteenth-century societies—France and the United States—where social class was the most salient aspect of social identity signified in clothing with late twentieth-century America, where lifestyle, gender, sexual orientation, age, and ethnicity are more meaningful to individuals in constructing their wardrobes. Today, clothes worn at work signify social class, but leisure clothes convey meanings ranging from trite to political. In today’s multicode societies, clothes inhibit as well as facilitate communication between highly fragmented social groups.

Crane extends her comparison by showing how nineteenth-century French designers created fashions that suited lifestyles of Paris elites but that were also widely adopted outside France. By contrast, today’s designers operate in a global marketplace, shaped by television, film, and popular music. No longer confined to elites, trendsetters are drawn from many social groups, and most trends have short trajectories. To assess the impact of fashion on women, Crane uses voices of college-aged and middle-aged women who took part in focus groups. What I liked the most?

  1. I love the fact that the book is presented chronologically. Since the book talks about fashion even during Industrial Revolution, this chronological documentation helps someone like  a 21 year old understand better.
  2. The next thing I liked the most in this book is “Appendix” (Very Strange, but True). It features Questionnaires for the reader and  focus groups like Fashion Designer. If you really answer those questions and could find a focus group partner, then for sure your whole idea of fashion will change completely.
  3. It is quite impressive because even though the book talks about Fashion it also presents lot of statistics like Income statistics etc. Well, Creativity + Technicality.
  4. The inclusion of history is brilliant. The core idea of book is “fashion”. But the history gives a whole different perspective
  5. Last but not the least, upon reading the book, every word in the book will make you think and breathe Fashion/Clothing and equally about Social Class/Structure.

Did you know?

During 19th century, suit purchased by the Middle Class men for the wedding is expected to last life time and serve variety of purposes like Sunday Church Serve, Wedding and Funerals. All this in France, very own Fashion Capital.

What was the surprise?

Clothes were relatively unavailable for working class & Fashion were created for Upper Class.

It is divided into 7 parts – Introduction, Organizational Strategy, Finance and Economics, Organizational Behavior, Marketing & Innovation, HRM & Employee relations and the ethical future. Except the Introduction and ethical future, all others parts talk about role of ethics in that particular business area.

What I liked the most?

  1. I love the fact that the book is presented as business cases and moral questions each of those cases arise. And this is brilliant considering the book is about ethics.
  2. The next thing I liked the most is that the book features a chapter on Conserve India. They have told the entire story of Conserve India in that 1 single chapter. It gives answers for so many Q we keep getting.
  3. It is quite impressive because even though the book talks about ethics book they variety in terms of business. The take about oil industry (bp), fashion or social issues (conserve India), software (apple computers) etc.
  4. The inclusion of pictures is brilliant. The core idea of book is “ethics” or theory. But the addition of pictures makes it even more interesting and gives a different twist to theory
  5. Last but not the least, upon reading the book, every word in the book will make you think and act ethically regardless of your moral values.

Did you know?

Green Technology is expected to be major growth sector promising to generate profits and employment Lot of literature in regards to this is showcased in this book.

What was the surprise?

“Philanthropy by design” was a real surprise. After all, Philanthropy is always connected to money.

Every section features tons of designers. The text is supported by color photographs that make the book quite attractive

What I liked the most?

  1. I love the fact that the author groups the designers based on their textile forte like the ones who stresses importance on texture, one who emphasizes structure and form etc.
  2. The next thing I liked the most is – Designers from fashion capitals like London, Paris share the space with small town designers in this book. Well, this is something that does not happen so much in reality. It features 36 varied designers from 16 countries around the world.
  3. It is quite impressive because this book is not like a conventional textile knowledge source, it goes one step further by being an inspiration, so was the innovation of the few designers
  4. The inclusion of pictures and contact information is brilliant. But more than that, the interview gives a glimpse of thought process of all the designers. Well, these thought process have the potential to inspire and generate new designers.
  5. Last but not the least, trust me every word in the book will create fascination for textiles rather than fashion and make you realize after all textiles are the life-blood of fashion
